Ceramic reconstruction is an exciting technique that allows a heavily broken down tooth to be fixed in one visit. Using state of the art technology your tooth can be fixed without an impression, without temporaries and without metal. This revolutionary technique can make old metal filled teeth look like new.

The Berkeley Clinic is now the centre for CEREC Excellence in Scotland and as such is at the forefront of both teaching this technique to dentists and providing the best CEREC service to our patients.

All of our dentists use the CEREC 3D system. This revolutionary system allows single visit crowns, veneers and ceramic reconstructions. This differs from more traditional techniques which usually involve at least two visits for a crown or veneer. Often two weeks are needed between visits and patients are left with temporary plastic crowns or veneers for this time. The CEREC 3D system allows patients to leave with their new tooth in around one hour.

LAVA Oral Scanner

Dr. Jamie Newlands was selected as the 1st dentist in the UK to have and launch the revolutionary LAVA Chairside Oral Scanner. The LAVA COS is the most significant advancement in dentistry in the last 100 years and The Berkeley Clinic is proud to be at the forefront of this technology.

What does it do?

The LAVA COS is a highly accurate digital 3D scanning system which eliminates the need for traditional gag inducing gloopy moulds and replaces them with a non-invasive, comfortable, quick and more accurate scanning process.

Why is it better?

The traditional way for making a crown or bridge involves taking a physical impression or mould. Most patients report discomfort, gagging or reching during this procedure which can take up to 10 minutes from start to finish. Not only is this procedure uncomfortable for the patient but a recent survey discovered that 50% of impressions taken where of a substandard quality. A substandard impression means a substandard crown or bridge which will be poorer fitting and more likely to fail over time.

The LAVA COS is more accurate meaning that you get a better fitting, longer lasting crown or bridge. Not only is it faster than a traditional impression, it is more interactive so that you can see your teeth in 3D on the screen and your dentist can tell whether the digital impression is accurate.
