Safe Amalgam Replacement

Many people have concerns and fears over the safety of mercury /amalgam fillings. As such the team at The Berkeley clinic made the collective decision to stop placing mercury fillings over 2.5 years ago.

You may already know that amalgam fillings are made up of mercury, silver, tin, copper and zinc. Mercury makes up 50% of the amalgam.

We take our patients’ health, care and concerns seriously and to that end we have designed a safe amalgam removal programme that minimises exposure to mercury during the removal of old amalgam fillings.

If you have concerns over your health and amalgam fillings then we can discuss with you at a consultation how we can safely and easily remove these fillings and then reconstruct your teeth using metal free alternatives.

Dr. Jamie Newlands who has a postgraduate Licencate in Homeopathy applied to dentistry designed the clinics protocol for safe removal and replacement in accordance with the European Society of Homeopathy guidelines.

At the Berkeley Clinic we can remove several amalgam fillings safely in one single visit. Some of the protocols we employ are -

  • Rubber Dam - this is a rubber sheet that isolates the teeth to be operated on to prevent amalgam being swallowed or inhaled.
  • Oxygen - a ‘nose piece’ is worn allowing you to breathe pure air during the procedure. This further protects you by preventing any potential inhalation of mercury vapour.
  • Vapour Extraction - our surgeries have been fitted with specially designed air filtration systems that extract mercury vapour from the air in the room during the replacement procedure.
  • Pre and Post procedure remedies that help eliminate mercury from your body are prescribed.

“After years of having concerns about my mercury fillings I felt great when I finally had them safely removed and replaced with metal free fillings and ceramic inlays. The whole process was well explained and painlessly carried out.” Miss Arlene K
