Visiting a dentist isn’t a fun prospect for many people. In fact, it is perfectly normal to experience some anxiety at the thought of sitting in the dentist’s chair. However it may be the case that the prospect of visiting the dentist for you is much worse than feeling a little nervous.

The Berkeley Clinic team in Glasgow would like to congratulate Dr Mike Gow on his recent invitation of membership from the faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) (MFDS RCPSG).
Mike graduated from Glasgow University Dental School in 1999 and is now the Berkeley Clinic’s leading phobia and anxiety management dentist.
Mike says “I have always been especially committed to the care of dental patients with anxiety, fear and phobia and I enjoy sharing in the positive experiences of the many people I help”.

Dr Mike Gow has just signed up to go on a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) short course on dental phobia management at Kings College, London.
This course will boost Mikes skills in treating anxious patients and help them manage and overcome dental fear.

Great news! Dr Mike Gow has been awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Anxiety Management from the University of Edinburgh.
The graduation ceremony will take place in July.

‘The Fearful Dental Patient’

Fear of dentistry is probably more common that you may have realised. The British Dental Association stated a few years ago that ‘one adult in three has moderate to severe fear of dental procedures’.
Dr Mike Gow Clinical Director of Dental Anxiety Management was approached to write a chapter for a new book called ‘The Fearful Dental Patient’ by Arthur Weiner (ed), published by Wiley Blackwell.
This fantastic book is going to print soon and will be available in book stores across the UK early 2011.
